| Site Description | The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston is a growing multi-racial, multicultural, and multi- generational congregation in the city's urban core. Located in the Museum District and the historic Third Ward, the congregation has been a beacon for love and justice since 1914. The congregation is in the midst of a size transition. Sunday morning attendance (~300), pledge income ($700,000), budget ($1.1 million), and staff size are all suggestive of a larger congregation. The congregation uses Policy Based governance and the Senior Minister serves as head of staff. The congregation's vision is widening love's circle and our commitment to expanding the circle of love has led to the establishment of a Spanish language ministry. | |
| Job Description | The intern will be fully integrated into the congregation's staff, will attend all staff meetings, and be expected to be present on campus for 30 Sundays. The intern will serve as Sunday worship leader at First Unitarian Universalist for ten Sundays. The intern will also have opportunities to engage with administration, pastoral care, stewardship, and social justice according to their interests and career goals. Creative projects that draw from the interns skills and experiences will be encouraged. Interns with advanced or native Spanish will have the opportunity to expand the congregation's Spanish language ministry. Beyond these expectations, the intern will have the chance to develop their job description in the first weeks of the internship. | |
