Site Description We are an active and thriving congregation with a membership that has more than doubled from 177 members in 2012 to more than 400 members today.
Job Description During the first month or two, attend as many congregational meetings and events as possible to become familiar with the Teaching Site and to begin developing a familiarity with the members and friends of the congregation. (After this initial period, meet with the Intern Supervisor to assess what would be helpful to continue.) Be physically present in person at least two Sunday mornings per month, arriving typically no later than 8:45 a.m. (to prepare for the 9:30 a.m. Early Service) and staying at least until approximately 1:00 p.m. (after the end of the 11:30 a.m. Late Service). There will sometimes be an additional event or meeting after the Late Service. Note: As long as UUCF has only one Sunday Service, the typical arrival time would be 9:00 a.m. to help set-up for the Sunday Service, then help with Religious Education at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Sunday Service. Be present online for a weekly Supervision Meeting on Zoom with the Intershipship Supervisor, scheduled at a mutually convenient time. Preach a sermon (~18-20 minutes) on the following dates: A mutually agreed upon Sunday after Labor Day in September 2023 on “My Journey to Unitarian Universalism” Sunday in October Sunday after Thanksgiving Sunday after Christmas (negotiable if will be out of town) Mutually agreed upon Sunday in February Mutually agreed upon Sunday in April Sunday in May on “What Really Matters?”: You have one last sermon to preach at the end of your Internship. What do you want to reflect back to UUCF, your Teaching Congregation, about the past year? What do you want to highlight that might be of benefit for future Intern Ministers? You may well have the opportunity to preach here again, but for now ask yourself: “What do I feel led to share with a UU congregation in general--and UUCF in particular--if this is my last sermon to them?” You have 20 minutes to get to the heart of the matter about “what really matters.” What experience, strength, and hope would you offer this congregation? Serve as a liturgist for the Sunday Service at least twice per month. (On Sundays when the Intern Minister is preaching some of the liturgist duties will be reassigned.) On Sundays when present in-person at UUCF, co-teach (or assist with) a Religion Education class/event – to be determined in conversation with the Internship Supervisor and the Director of Religious Education. Teach at least one Adult Religious Education class (could be multi-week). Spend time each week following-up on pastoral care needs in the congregation, which can include calls, texts, emails, letters, or meetings in person depending on the situation. Co-lead a Chalice Group (small group ministry) online via Zoom. These meetings are typically twice per month for two hours. Attend meetings of the UUCF Board of Trustees (typically 3rd Thursdays, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.) Attend meetings of the Stewardship Team, monthly on Zoom usually in November through March. Attend monthly Internship Committee Meetings either via Zoom or in person as determined in discussion with the Committee. Attend the Finance Committee Zoom on 2nd Mondays at 7:30 p.m. Attend one event (online or in person) per month through Frederick Covenant of UU Pagans, options available at frederickcuups.com Attend at least one UUCF Buddhist Group per month, Thursdays at 7pm Attend Poetry Group Zoom at least once/month, Wednesdays at 12:30pm. Attend monthly Facilities Management Team Zoom, 1st Thursdays at 7pm Attend monthly Social Action Committee Zoom, 2nd Tuesdays at 4pm Design a weekly graphic (typically using Canva.com) to help promote the UUCF Sunday Service on social media. In conversation with the Internship Supervisor, facilitate one (or more) original projects/programs related to the mission of the Teaching Site to “encourage spiritual growth, build a beloved community, and act for peace and justice.” To fulfill the required number of hours, attend additional meetings and special events mutually agreed upon with the Internship Supervisor. (A good resource for options is the weekly UUCF e-newsletter.)
