Site Description Founded in 1842, UUSG is one of the oldest Unitarian churches in the Midwest. It boasts a classic New England-style sanctuary and is built out of locally sourced limestone. The sanctuary and common room were heavily updated during the pandemic with new paint, new carpet, and new tech. The congregation now offers an innovative in-person and online combination worship experience. The city of Geneva, together with its neighbor St Charles, was recently jointly voted "Most Beautiful Town in America". The town is an hour west of the city of Chicago and about 30 minutes north of Aurora. There is a Metra train station a leisurely 10-minute walk from the church. The town sits across the scenic Fox River and caters to tourists with many cafes and shops. The congregation draws from a large commuter area. They are growing, vibrant, supportive, and engaged with creating a brighter future. Over the last 40 years, UUSG has been host to numerous interns and guest preachers. Once upon a time, it was a dedicated preaching pulpit for Meadville-Lombard seminarians.
Job Description Intern ministers will participate in the various aspects of parish ministry, including pastoral care, preaching and worship planning, RE, ad-ministry, and more. The intern should expect to work closely with the minister and staff, observe and participate in the various parts of parish community life, support committees and teams, and practice leadership at the church and in the community. The intern should expect substantial opportunities for worship leadership practice throughout the 2-year internship (up to 1/month), with support and guidance from an open, creative, and engaged worship team. 1 unit of CPE is required.
