| Site Description | The Unitarian Society of Ridgewood has been an active force in this village for 113 years. Our well-kept grounds and striking worship space reflect the care invested in our community over generations. The congregation has a deep tradition of Humanism nurtured in the long ministerial tenure here of Kenneth Patton. Our lay leadership tradition is strong and our congregants are actively engaged, particularly in social justice issues. For approximately 40 years the Society has been an active partner in the CAMP Youth Development Project in nearby Paterson, NJ. More recently members have been friendly visitors for detainees in the Elizabeth Detention Center and have partnered in a program to provide shelter and other services for asylees. We are working toward Green Sanctuary status. Substantial growth in our children's RE population has led us to adopt a two service format on Sundays. Our staff includes the minister Reverend Sarah Lammert, a full-time DRE, an administrator, secretary, and music director. Ridgewood is a Bergen County town within easy commuting distance of New York City with its abundance of cultural activities and easy access to other Metro District UU congregations. There are many outdoor recreational areas nearby. | |
| Job Description | We offer an outstanding opportunity for a ministerial intern with energy, dedication and vision to contribute to and benefit from the growth of our engaged and active Society. The intern will preach, provide pastoral care, participate in religious education, engage in anti-oppression work, and attend congregational leadership meetings. We will encourage the intern to use his or her special skills and talents to create new programs for the benefit of the congregation and the community. It is expected that the intern will be active in the local UUMA chapter as well as the Ridgewood Interfaith Organization. The intern will receive guidance and support through weekly meetings with the minister and monthly meetings with the Intern Committee. | |
| Site Accessibility | Full in main building. Office building 1st floor. | |
| Application Procedure | Please describe in about 600 words why you would like to be an intern in Ridgewood and what your vision of ministry is. Send your response along with your resume, a sample sermon, and three reference letters to Kris Henrickson, Intern Committee Chair. The committee and minister will interview applicants by phone in December and begin the decision process immediately. | |
