Site Description The Unitarian Universalist Maine Collaborative Ministry Program (CMP) consists of three UU churches in Maine: Ellsworth, Castine, and Belfast. Together the three churches would constitute a congregation of over 300 members. The mission of the CMP is to nurture excellence in ministry and explore new approaches of engaged faith through collaboration. To that end, our Internship Program is meant to nurture and support future UU ministers in a multi-site setting. This is a parish-based internship setting. To date, we have had three CMT Intern Ministers complete one year, fulltime internships with us.
Job Description This internship provides an opportunity to engage in collaborative ministry with three different congregations, each of which is about an hour away from one another. The intern will be responsible for working with all three congregations, and learning about the different church cultures. In addition to the areas and goals that the intern will designate in the Learning and Service Agreement, it is expected that the intern will help foster collaborative ministry opportunities and projects among the three congregations. Responsibilities: We understand, and will support fully, the intern’s need to fulfill ministerial competencies designated by the Ministerial Fellowship Committee and Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association in the areas of: --Pastoral Work --Prophetic Outreach --Teaching --Practical Arts --Worship (e.g. leading the design and delivery of at least eight worship services) Because of the collaborative nature of our program, we would also expect the intern to attend and participate on: --Collaborative Ministry Team (CMT) Meetings, in a leadership role --Board/Council Meetings on a rotating basis --Professional Groups (e.g. UU Cluster Meetings; UUMA Retreats if in Candidate status, Interfaith or Ministerial Groups within the Collaborative Ministry geographic reach on a rotating basis) Each of the three member congregations has a strong commitment to Social Justice work, and would like the intern to coordinate a --Social Justice Program among the three congregations. Additional responsibilities may come about as the intern works with the CMT, Supervisor, and Internship Committee. Supervision The intern will be supervised by a qualified settled minister from one of the three congregations. Secondary mentoring will be provided by the other settled ministers in the CMP. Status Full-time, 40 hours/week, 9.5 months If preferable, intern may negotiate to serve two years in this full-time internship position to meet seminary requirements.
